Everytime December rolls around here in the Midwest, I feel like a fish that has just been plucked from an aquarium. Hang with me for a second, because those of you who live in dry, low humidity climates understand exactly how I feel! The moisture is just gone…and the effects on the body and skin are pretty immediate.
It’s sometimes a struggle to find the best face moisturizer, especially when nothing has worked for you thus far. Truth is, there are different ingredients that are specifically implemented and effective for certain skin types and ingredients, and if you are using the wrong moisturizer, your skin will show it.
I hope to help you out a little by revealing some products that have a delicious list of ingredients to keep your skin hydrated and healthy this chilly, dry season.
It’s a mouthful, I know, but it is a lot of bang for your buck. This is a moisturizer product that is on the lower end of the price sale, so it doesn’t break the bank.
This product is water based, so it does not have the slick, oily feeling that many other moisturizers have. If you have normal to dry skin, this is a great neutral product. It is oil free, and has hyaluronic acid (attracts water to the skin), and aloe which is very soothing.
This particular product is best for dull, tired skin. It does not claim to specifically address skin conditions such as rosacea, acne, or hyper pigmentation, so this is a product that would work well as an all around, everyday moisturizer.
On the plus side, it absorbs quickly and is very lightweight. However, it does have a slight scent…it kind of smells like a clean, crisp cologne, so if you are sensitive to scents, keep reading because this is not your product. I sort of like a refreshing scent so I don’t mind it at all.
This is for all of you lovely people who settle for nothing less than organic. I, personally endorse organic skincare because I have used it in my practice for years in certain regimens and it is amazing.
This moisturizer is a great pick for all skin types. Much like the above mentioned product, it is a wonderful all around moisturizer. Among its main ingredients are organic aloe, CoQ10, and hyaluronic acid- and it is composed of only organic all natural ingredients throughout.
The cream has a smooth, rich texture (not something I would recommend for oily/blemish prone skin). It would be nourishing, therefore, to extra dry skin because it is thick. It also gives a certain plumping effect, which helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines.
Another plus is that, because it consists of gentle, natural ingredients, you can pretty much use it as needed. I would even suggest using on decollete (neck/chest area) to plump and firm.
Can we all just take a moment to bask in the wonder of Vitamin C. This wonderful, multi-faceted vitamin is the essential ingredient to assist in the lightening of dark spots.
Hyperpigmentation occurs from getting too much sun exposure. Though you may not notice it while enjoying the beautiful tan skin that the sun provides, years later…with enough sun exposure, you may start to notice small (usually brown) discolorations on the skin. They might not be as noticeable on the arms and legs, but when they show up on the face, they’re quite an annoyance.
It’s definitely easier to prevent than to correct in this case. Sunscreen is crucial in preventing discoloration. But, if its too little too late, this is a great start.
Vitamin C is also a stimulator of collagen synthesis, a process that slows down remarkably with age and exposure to environmental factors. It also brightens the skin and fades dark spots by encouraging rapid cellular turnover, repairs skin, and protects it. It can even begin to fade acne scars and marks with repeated use.
This particular moisturizer gives your skin a healthy dose of the vitamin, as it contains 15% Vitamin C.
So, this is the ultimate duo, power packed moisturizer. Get this: it is a serum (product powerhouse) and a moisturizer!
It deposits large amounts of product onto and into the skin, AND moisturizes. This could cut down your skincare regimen, and reduce the number of products you order.
Not only does this serum contain Vitamins C, E, and A, but it also contains the ever so hydrating hyaluronic acid, which is capable of holding 1000x its weight in water!
It absorbs easily into the skin, stimulates new collagen production, and is noted for giving people a firm tightened feel once applied.
There is also a 60-day money back guarantee on this moisturizer, so that is a great incentive.
Blemish Prone/Mature Skin
I’m pretty pumped about this product. It can be used for a number of different skin types, including acne/oily, problematic, blemish prone, aging, mature, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, etc.
This moisturizer is prescription grade, and it houses some of the most effective ingredients pertaining to skin care, in my opinion. AHA, BHA, and salicylic acid. These ingredients increase cell turnover so that the skin is smooth, plump, and clear. They also keep the pores clear by the rapid state of cell turnover.
Eliminating cystic acne, pimples, zits, blackheads, post acne scars, and marks, it ALSO heals the skin and soothes. As if it could get any better…the ingredients are also natural.
The AHA and BHA help to correct skin tone, and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It is also a non-comedogenic formula, meaning that it does not clog the pores.
The texture is light, not oily, and a little goes a long way. It can also be used on back and chest- a big plus.
It is not easy to find a moisturizer, or any product for that matter, that properly performs on sensitive skin. Skin can react negatively to scent, ingredients, texture, etc. It’s frustrating. Its painful.
This cream is for skin characterized by redness, eczema, dryness, acne, itch, and inflammation. It boosts healing and recovery, and isn’t aggravating to the skin. Some of the calming ingredients include Aloe, Milk Thistle, and Cocoa Butter.
The product claims to reduce inflammation, stop itching, remedy dryness or dry patches and flakiness, and soothe redness.
This moisturizer received rave reviews, and has worked for a ton of people. It also consists of mainly food grade ingredients, which is nice when you have got sensitive skin and need to know exactly what is going into it!
If you are looking for a moisturizer that doubles as a lightly tinted foundation, this is it.
You guys, I cannot rave enough about theBalm. I used these makeup products throughout my career both on myself and on my clients and they are all amazing products. I use the tinted moisturizer every day, and it is excellent in several ways.
First of all, it is a huge bottle, comparatively. It lasts forever. It comes in 7 different shades, and you do not have to be spot on. The shades blend so easily with the neck and chest area that you get a nearly seamless flow.
It is weightless, applies smoothly, and the coverage is wonderful. It’s not full coverage, as a foundation would be, but is blends out the skin tone, evening and perfecting, and it looks very natural. Not to mention it contains SPF 18, so you are covered when you are in the sun.
I use it on a daily basis, and I can wear it to work out without it causing a breakout, or just to run errands and I feel like I look natural, without being completely void of makeup. I will always be using this tinted moisturizer.
